Promoting physical activity for a healthy and active lifestyle
We believe that physical education, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, makes a vital contribution to a pupil’s development and health.
Physical education is really important at Hastings School; we have a specialist sports team that delivers a varied programme that starts from just two years old.
PE Curriculum
Physical education is vital for mental and physical health
All students up to Year 11 do a minimum of two hours physical activity each week. The physical education curriculum provides the opportunity for pupils to increase their self-confidence through an ability to manage themselves successfully in areas such as: team games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, outdoor adventurous activities and swimming. A balance of individual, team, co-operative and competitive activities cater for individual pupil’s needs and abilities.
For those who love sport there are many extra clubs, and competitive teams, which allow students to develop their skills to a much higher level. We also have agreements with local sports clubs.
My passion is to inspire and help pupils to develop a healthy and active lifestyle through physical activity.

Competitive Sport
We also offer various opportunities for students to compete against other schools and local clubs
We offer:
Internal sports competitions, eg 5-a-side football tournaments at lunchtime for Years 7-9;
International Schools Sport tournaments in Madrid where we compete in different sports against the likes of Runnymede, King’s etc;
Sports clinics where students get access to top coaching in a particular sport.
Sports Days where our students compete in a range of different sports against each other and pupils from Cognita schools in Madrid.
A Cognita Sport Festival where different Cognita schools in Spain meet to compete in a range of sports.
This year we have four basketball teams and one volleyball team in the Madrid leagues – they train during the week and compete against club teams on Saturdays.
Dance Programme
Dance is taught across all our buildings in partnership with Dance Escool company
Dance Escool is a dance school with more than 10 years of experience, 1500 students, more than 40 teachers based in Barcelona and Madrid.
Dance Escool joined Hastings in September to offer a weekly dance club as part of our ECA sports programme. We hosted a ‘Festival of Dance’ for Madrid international schools last year and we plan to do the same again this year.
