This Christmas season, we are delighted to share an exciting collaboration between Hastings School and the heartwarming local charity, TaxiLuz.

What is TaxiLuz?

Founded in Madrid by a group of compassionate taxi drivers, TaxiLuz brings joy to the elderly community during the festive season—a time that can often feel isolating for them. Every December, these drivers decorate their taxis with festive lights and decorations, transforming their vehicles into magical rides. They partner with residential care homes to offer elderly passengers the chance to experience the beauty of Madrid’s Christmas lights up close, in the comfort of these special taxis.

For many elderly individuals, mobility challenges, financial constraints, or a lack of confidence in using public transport can make visiting the city centre an impossible dream. TaxiLuz changes this narrative by creating an unforgettable experience of connection, joy, and festive cheer. Over the years, this initiative has grown from a small group of taxis to a fleet of hundreds of vehicles, spreading joy across Madrid.

Hastings School’s Contribution

This year, our Hastings community is proud to contribute to the TaxiLuz initiative in a unique and meaningful way. Our Primary and Early Years students are creating beautiful, festive bars of soap and personalised cards as gifts for the elderly passengers who take part in the TaxiLuz experience.

These handmade gifts are a tangible reminder to the recipients that they are valued, cherished, and remembered during this special time of year. Our goal is to bring smiles and warmth to their hearts, while also teaching our students the importance of kindness, empathy, and giving back to the community.
